INJURY SCARE: Diogo Jota Faces Fitness Test Ahead of Bologna Clash

 The Portugal international, 27, was absent from Tuesday's open training session after picking up a minor issue. Manager Arne Slot expects Jota to be in the squad to face the Serie A club.

"Diogo missed two sessions after the Wolves game as he took a knock," Slot said. "I'm expecting him to be with us [for the game]." Liverpool forward Federico Chiesa also missed Tuesday's training session and is ruled out of the Bologna match.

"Federico trained with us and came in today with some problems and I'm not expecting him to be in the team," added Slot.

 

"It is a pity for us and for him as well as he was looking forward to a Champions League night at Anfield, especially against an Italian team.

"I'm not expecting him to be out for a very long period of time, but this game is not possible for him and we have to wait to see if he can be in the team on Saturday [against Crystal Palace]."

Liverpool are looking to make it back-to-back wins in the Champions League after beating AC Milan in their opening fixture.

STADIUM BAN SHOWDOWN: President Akufo-Addo Urgently Contacts CAF Prez

 

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has contacted the President of the Confederation of African Football, Patrice Motsepe, Nhyira FM reports.

According to the report, President Akufo-Addo’s call was intended to engage the CAF President on how to ensure the Black Stars can host Sudan in Ghana.

It is rumored that the president could be lobbying for CAF to certify one of the stadia in the country despite the poor state of the pitches that led to a ban.

“Ghana President Nana Akufo-Addo has personally placed a call to CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe over the possibility of CAF certifying a venue in Ghana for Black Stars vs Sudan,” Nhyira FM shared on X.

Meanwhile, the CAF inspection of the Accra and Cape Coast stadia concluded on September 29, 2024.

A Joy Sports report indicated that there is a possibility CAF would grant Ghana temporary approval of one of the venues to host the Black Stars' 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Sudan on October 11, 2024.

CAF withdrew its conditional approval for the Baba Yara Stadium due to issues such as an uneven playing field, poor drainage, and inadequate grass cover, which became apparent after the Ghana vs. Angola match on September 5, 2024.

In response, the Ministry of Youth and Sports directed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to invite CAF officials to inspect the Accra Sports Stadium and the Legon Stadium to see if they meet the criteria for hosting Black Stars games.

Following the inspection, CAF's decision on whether a stadium in Ghana can host the game is still pending.
